Conclave to elect new Pope to begin on May 7th
A conclave is a meeting of cardinals appointed by the Pope in the Catholic Church to elect a new head of the church, the Pope. Cardinals who were under the age of 80 when the papal seat became vacant are eligible to vote. The word comes from the Latin expression cum clavi (“with the key”), which refers to the election behind closed doors.
The conclave to elect the 267th Pope will begin on May 7th.
