New Holland T9

 New Holland

When Sperry Corporation merged with Burroughs Corporation in 1986 to form Unisys Corporation, New Holland was sold to Ford. The agricultural machinery company was renamed Ford New Holland, but the tractor brand remained Ford. The New Holland tractor brand was born in the early 1990s, when the Fiat Group bought Ford's agricultural machinery business. In 1990, Ford decided to sell its ownership of its Ford New Holland agricultural and construction unit and in 1991 reached an agreement with the Fiat Group to sell Ford New Holland to Fiat Geotech. Both brands had long traditions in tractor manufacturing. Fiat Trattori manufactured its first model 702 in 1919. Fiat Trattori S.p.A. ("Fiat Trattori") changed its name to FiatAgri in 1984. Henry Ford began manufacturing Fordson tractors in 1917. Contrary to popular belief, the tractor brand name was not Fordson because the Minneapolis company was already selling a tractor called Ford, but because Henry and his son Edsel founded a company called Ford & Son to manufacture tractors so that their development would not potentially reduce the value of the shares of the Ford Motor Company, which manufactured cars. The name Fordson was an abbreviation of Ford & Son and was used because the Ford Motor Company, which manufactured cars, wanted to reserve the opportunity to manufacture Ford-branded tractors in the future. In 1964, the tractor name was changed to Ford. Combine harvester manufacturer Clayes (which later became Clayson), which had merged with the New Holland brand, also experimented with tractor manufacturing with its NKT model in 1943.

In the early 1990s, the old brands Ford and Fiatagri merged their ranges and changed their names so that two brands were sold side by side. The unifying factor for the brands was New Holland, a traditional American agricultural machinery manufacturer owned by Ford. The blue tractors were New Holland Ford for a while and the red ones were New Holland Fiatagri. The ranges began to merge initially with the largest models. The last Ford-branded tractor was the 8830, which was manufactured until the end of 1993. The Genesis series, introduced for 1994, was the successor to Ford's 30 series and at the same time a trendsetter for the combined New Holland tractor range. The tractor was of course designed entirely by Ford and was manufactured in Canada, but its appearance was similar to other future models and from the start the tractor was also available in Fiat colours. The front had the NH logo, but in the early years the side read Fiatagri or Ford in large letters. Soon after, the brands and ranges were merged under the name New Holland, dropping Ford and Fiat. Since 2000, New Holland, Case and International Harvester have been part of CNH Global, which merged with Fiat Industrial in September 2013 to form CNH Industrial.
