The Pope's name is associated with the artificial intelligence revolution

 

 Pope Leo XIV lays out vision for his papacy, identifies AI as a main challenge for humanity

 New Pope Leo XIV chose his name as a reference to the artificial intelligence revolution.

 Leo XIV has said that he chose his papal name because he wanted to be in the same continuity with the previous Pope Leo. Leo XIII was Pope from 1878 to 1903 and is known as a significant promoter of modern Catholic social thought. His encyclical Rerum Novarum raised issues of social justice, especially the rights of workers in the context of the second industrial revolution.

 At present, we can consider that a new industrial revolution is at hand, as artificial intelligence develops and offers ever new opportunities and at the same time growing threats to humanity.

 – Following our own time, the Church offers everyone its treasure of social teaching in response to the new industrial revolution and the development of artificial intelligence. New developments challenge human dignity, justice and the value of work, says Leo XIV.
